Senior Product Manager I/O




Spectrum Controls is a leading manufacturer of hardware and related software products serving the Industrial Control Marketspace. Our products are successfully deployed around the world supporting industries such as: Process Industry, Oil & Gas, Mining & Metals, Food & Beverage, Water and Wastewater Management, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Paper and others. Our core products include: Analog I/O Modules, Industrial Displays (InView), and Secure Remote Access Products (WebPort). We are a Rockwell Automation Global Encompass Partner, licensed to develop Allen-Bradley Compatible I/O.  We also offer SY/MAX and Quantum I/O as an alliance partner with Schneider Electric.    


As the Senior Product Manager, you will own your products from cradle to grave. You are the technology expert knowing your; products, market, influencers, and the end customer. The Senior Product Manager owns business case development and creates precise product requirements documents.  You collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Engineering and Operations to grow existing product revenue, while aggressively working to gain the Executive teams approval for new products. You own and evangelize your product vision and roadmaps. You also own product marketing responsibilities for your product lines. 




Product Management:

  • Define, develop, own and evangelize both the digital and analog IO (Input/Output) product roadmaps.
  • Develop and nurture strategic relationships with partner companies that drive I/O product growth.
  • Deliver clearly defined product requirements based on solid VoC and market research.
  • Make tough decision that balance internal and external product development.
  • Own the financial models for all I/O hardware business cases that justify product investments.
  • Define what product success looks like, developing KPI’s that measure it.
  • Be the product’s evangelist, influencing Engineering, Marketing, Sales and the leadership teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering to incorporate new product specifications into product designs.
  • Establish targets for total manufactured costs of new or enhanced products.
  • Own the P&L and ROI for your products.



 General Marketing Responsibilities:

  • Establish priority of products to be developed based on thorough market analysis.
  • Coordinate with Sales to provide the production department with customer delivery requirements as needed.
  • Continuously advise Engineering of new market requirements or competitive developments.
  • Develop and maintain continuous market research (by dialog with customers via phone, at trade shows and through product survey mailings) for new and existing products.
  • Initiate research of competitive products and maintain a file of information regarding our competitors. When appropriate, acquire competitive products for further review and testing.
  • Create product release promotions, e.g. special pricing for demo units and availability of demo products.
  • Responsibility for recommending changes and adjustments to distributor policies as they relate to our products.
  • Plan regular customer field trips to assess current market conditions, product needs, competitive activity and other relevant issues.
  • Write a market introduction plan that includes the key dates for all marketing activities with new product releases.



  • Assist in the development of the following publications for all products:
  • Product brochures
  • Technical manuals
  • Data Sheets
  • Price Sheets
  • Warranty cards
  • Other sales or marketing aids


Customer Service:

  • Act as a technical expert for the following issues on Spectrum Controls products:
    • Technical product assistance (programming, wiring, etc.)
    • Clearing any pricing adjustments or mistakes.
    • Training of sales and marketing team members
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a customer contact list as it pertains to assigned products.
  • As necessary, provide customers with the following:
    • New product introductions.
    • Application information.
    • Pricing or policy updates
    • Product changes, enhancements or upgrades.



  • As necessary, support sales opportunities with regional account managers throughout the U.S. as required by customer demands.
  • Booth duty at trade shows.
  • Act as backup for inside sales when customers call and need assistance.


Pricing policies

  • Maintain cost information, including an understanding of all overhead, parts costs and profitability, for assigned products
  • Establish price and discount structure for assigned products using company guidelines as a base.
  • When required for commercial consideration, authorized to issue credits as defined by Director of Product Management and Marketing.




  • Minimum 10 years’ technology company experience with industrial control systems.
  • BS Engineering discipline, preferably electronics, electrical or equivalent industry experience.
  • B.A. with at least 3 years’ sales/marketing experience desirable or at least 5 years’ sales/marketing experience
  • Product development and product launch processes experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of Waterfall processes
  • Intermediate knowledge of Networking, Security and Cloud Services Experience
  • Very high written/spoken English language skills, evidenced through published technical papers, marketing literature, product manuals.
  • Accomplished in Excel, PowerPoint and other Office 365 applications.
  • Public speaking skills/training.
  • Foreign travel, foreign language skills a plus.
  • Experience in manufacturing companies is required, applications engineering and/or manufacturing engineering experience ideal.
